WWD Media People: Kate Lewis, Hearst Chief Content Officer

When Joanna Coles suddenly announced her departure from the chief content officer role she originated at Hearst this past fall, Kate Lewis immediately came to my mind as her successor. Three business days later, it was announced that Kate would ascend to the role. Now with a few months her belt, Kali Hays with WWD talked with Kate about the past, present and future of print and digital media. Here are my favorite highlights.

That Was Then, This Is Now

Maybe I don’t wonder how you and I compare to each other as much as I wonder how his current feelings for me compare to the feelings he once had for you.

Brunch Talk

….She told me over dinner Thursday — you never want to think that you’re the cuter one in a couple. You want people to tell you that, but you don’t want to think that yourself.

Moving forward

It’s in my nature to be ecstatic for personal change, but I also worry about making a mistake. I repeat “I’m nervous, but I’m excited” when talking to others. However, I should only be saying “I’m excited for this opportunity.”

In elementary school we displayed so much of who we are, how we feel and how we react in different situation. That is why our families worried for us, but also was excited to see how we would turn out. I wanted teachers to affirm that my hard work was noticed, not for validation as […]

No Yellow Brick Road

As I look at my fellow public relations graduates and friends, I have to ask, Does everyone seem to know what they’re doing next with their career but me? But then, I’m reminded, no. We weren’t promised a yellow brick road when we graduated, but no one warned us the streets were so tough against […]

Too Cute for You

Tonight I thought about the last few years of dating and my professional life. At many points along the way we get the feeling of “I can’t” when going for whatever or whomever we want. We keep seeing this great-looking stranger, and we tell ourselves, I can’t approach them. We see a fantastic opportunity and […]
